Kitty Horton is a Brisbane-based artist working more recently with ceramics and painting. The residency at Side Gallery, titled 'Residency', furthers Kitty's enduring process of finding symbolism in domestic objects. The evolution of Kitty's work is evident in the use of new materials and media, yet earmarked by the continued use of a muted palette, creating continuity throughout her oeuvre.
Kitty’s artworks have explored the materiality of a combination of oils, mixed media, ceramics and drawing. Inspired by the American Minimalists, Kitty investigates her surroundings by creating distorted shapes, forms and motifs. Mark-making and the serendipitous accident extend the relationship between painting and drawing. Kitty has recently engaged with spatial configurations of interior objects to provide compositional structures. The mediums of drawing, ceramics and painting enable Kitty to further investigate the hard and soft duality of opposing, sometimes complimentary, interior forms.
