Duane Doyle is a proud Jiman (yimen) artist from Central Queensland. He identifies with his mothers animal totem, the Googoobing (scrub turkey). Duane honors the Googoobing today by sharing stories of Gummoo Wongarra (one water), which flows from the Carnarvon Gorge ranges, reconciling with non-indigenous people by building coexistence and breaking down fears.
In the 1990’s Duane added painting to hard labouring jobs. He was taught by Ghungalu and Garingbal woman Aunty Patsy Kemp-Leisha who sent him off to ‘keep practicing’, which he has done ever since. His art practice provides him with patience, acceptance, organisation, rejection, decision making and healing.
Since joining the Art Gang at West End Community House, Duane has exhibited across Brisbane, painted murals and conducted cultural workshops. Most of all the support from the Art Gang has been the love of a big family, inspiring Duane to paint this series of work — for his Art Family.
