About the Artist
Justine Wake
Justine Wake is a visual artist based in Meanjin/Brisbane, working across multiple media including painting and assemblage sculptures. ‘Tail of the moon’ is the amalgamation of several artist residencies across Australia and Canada, where Justine continued explorations of play-based processes.
“Art has always been my preferred language—a way to explore and express the complexity of the world around me. Whether through painting, assemblage, drawing, or making marks on various surfaces, creating art feels like the most honest way to engage with difficult ideas, emotions, and moments of play. It’s a lifelong conversation I am dedicated to continuing.
The presence of a viewer—someone who can share in this conversation—adds a layer of beauty and magic. Art allows us to connect across time and space, inviting multiple dialogues through a single piece. I can’t imagine a time in my life when I won’t be compelled to create, as this pursuit remains central to how I make sense of the world.” — Justine Wake
